Bathing Nude in Public is Impolite?
Lessons learned in lovely Laos and from traveling Far and Wild
Dear Friend:
In March 2025, Brant and I took a month-long trip through Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. We visited Cecilia, a friend from my boating days, and her husband Giancarlo at their home in Kuala Lumpur. There, I befriended her dog Zazu, one of the biggest (and sweetest) hounds I’ve ever met!
From Kuala Lumpur, we traveled to Hanoi, where we had a close encounter with the city’s famous street train.
Whew! That was close!
Lovely Laos
From Vietnam, we headed into Laos, where we stayed for about a week in the lovely town of Luang Prabang. I visited the city once before and liked it, and I thought Brant would too. He did!
Luang Prabang is elegant and authentically Laotian, a perfect balance between comfort and culture. It’s also a good jumping off point for fun excursions, like learning how to harvest rice, make liquor from snakes and scorpions (Yuk!), and float down the Mekong River.

Speaking of culture, we noticed these friendly yet direct posters around Laos advising tourists how to behave. One would not think such things were needed, but apparently so.
Maybe other countries should learn from the Laotians and put up posters advising visitors on what NOT to do!
They might even get Austin Powers as their spokesperson!
By the way, I’ve put that pee poster over our toilet here at home as a reminder to Brant. Hahaha!
Before I go, I want to mention that he and I visited Bulgaria on our way here. That was officially my 117th country! We had a lovely time. I’ll share pictures in a future newsletter.
Until then, don’t eat too many chocolate Easter eggs, and thank you for reading my letter!
With love,
What a fun place to be and experience the beautiful culture and environment. Viva la arroz!
“Shoot me, if you can”: li amo! 😍😂
