My Mom and the Italian Stallion
A Funny Story from the Book "Far and Wild" set on the Island of Roatán, Honduras

This newsletter is a little embarrassing because it tells a story about my dear mom and a famous Italian porn star. Don’t worry — the story is not vulgar — but it is funny! It all started in 2015 on the island of Roatán off the coast of Honduras. Here’s the excerpt from the book “Far and Wild.”
Not long after I arrived on Roatán, I got a call from my mother in Italy.
“Fabiana. I’m following you on Facebook. You are in Roatán, yes?”
“Yes, mama. What’s up?”
“You’ll never believe this,” she said, her voice rising. “But they are filming L'isola dei famosi near there!”
For those who don’t know, L'isola dei famosi is a popular Italian reality show. Sometimes called The Celebrity Island (or literally “The Island of the Famous”), it is similar to the American TV show Survivor, except the contestants are famous Italian celebrities. My mom, like many Italians, was a huge fan of the show.
“And you’ll never believe who is on the show,” my mom said excitedly.
“Who?”
“Rocco Siffredi!” she said with a giggle.
This is the part of the story that gets a little creepy. Rocco Siffredi is an Italian porn star famous for his extra-long appendage, among other things too kinky for this book. How my mom knew about the “Italian Stallion,” as Siffredi is known, I didn’t want to know. I didn’t even want to think about it!
But I knew Siffredi had starred in more than 1,300 pornographic films and had a cult following. Was Mom one of his fans? Ewww! Yuck!
Intrigued by the prospect of catching a glimpse of the Stallion, maybe with his shirt off (or more!), Simona and I hitched a ride on a charter boat that was taking a polite American couple out for a nice ride. When we got close to the island where they were filming, I started hollering “Rocco! Rocco!” from the side of the boat, waving my arms (and other things) to attract attention.
“Who are you calling, dear?” the polite American woman asked. When I told her, she said: “Oh dear,” and turned pink. Simona and I had to bite our lips to keep from laughing out loud. Americans can be so prudish sometimes.
Killer Sand Flies!
You’ll find the whole story in Chapter 37, “Killer Sand Flies,” including accounts of my adventures in Belize, Jamaica, and of my airplane ride over the famous “Blue Hole,” which The Discovery Channel ranked as one of “The 10 Most Amazing Places on Earth.” Of course, you’ll also learn why that chapter is titled as it is.

Don’t Worry About Mom
I am fairly certain Mom does not have a porn habit, and if she does, I don’t want to know! 😝
In this photo, taken just the other day, Mom and I are wearing our matching black puff hats. She liked mine, so I hunted all over Milano till I found a similar one and gave it to her for her 73rd birthday.
